Children’s messages. Using hydrophobic sand is a perfect example of what happens when we step away from Christ.

Christ is our water, anchors us, and shapes and molds us. In Christ, the hydrophobic sand clumps up and sticks together. Out of water, the sand falls apart, becomes individual grains with no meaning, and blows away with the wind. Even a sand castle cannot be built without wetting it first with water!

Whether in word or deed, we must do so in Christ's name!

The Bible references sand to symbolize the uncountable number of the descendants of Israel, the immeasurable quantity of God's thoughts, and the instability of a life built on a poor foundation, as seen in verses like Genesis 22:17, Psalm 139:18, and Matthew 7:26. 

Symbolic Meanings

* Uncountable NumbersThe vastness of the grains of sand on the seashore is used to represent an immense and countless number. 

* God promised Abraham descendants as numerous as the sand of the sea (Genesis 22:17). 

* This imagery is used to describe the future multitude of the Israelites. 

* It is also used to describe the number of divine thoughts about individuals, such as in Psalm 139:18. 

* InstabilityBuilding on sand symbolizes a lack of a stable foundation, a metaphor used in a parable by Jesus. 

* In the parable of the wise and foolish builders, the house built on sand is compared to a life that will collapse when tested by storms, contrasting with the rock-built house that stands firm, Mike Mason. 

* Burden or WeightSand can also symbolize something that is a burden. 

* In Proverbs 27:3, sand is described as a burden that is heavy.
