The Ripple Effect of the Gospel

Romans 10:5–15

The Gospel is like a ripple effect.

When a stone is dropped into water, the first ripple may seem small, but it doesn’t stop there. It continues outward, reaching farther and farther from where it began.

The same is true of the Gospel.

In Romans 10:5–15, Paul reminds us that “everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame” and that those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. But Paul also asks an important question: How will people believe if they have never heard? And how will they hear unless someone tells them?

The Gospel spreads because someone is willing to carry it to someone else.

When Jesus walked the earth, the disciples did not always understand who He truly was or what He was doing. They witnessed His miracles, but sometimes they focused on the how rather than the why.

How did Jesus heal this person?
How did He multiply the bread?
How did He perform this miracle?

We can fall into the same mindset today. We can become so focused on how something happened that we miss why it happened.

The miracles of Jesus were not simply demonstrations of His power. They pointed people toward something greater. They revealed who Jesus was and pointed people toward God.

The worldly mindset often asks, “How did this happen?”

Faith asks, “What is God showing me through this?”

And that is where the ripple begins.

The teachings of Christ did not end with the disciples. The message continued from one person to another, from one generation to the next. The Gospel spread like ripples across the water.

And today, we are part of those ripples.

The Gospel brings glad tidings of good things. It brings the good news that Jesus Christ came into this world, died for us, and defeated death. That is why we are here today.

Think about how many people had to share the Gospel for it to reach us.

Someone taught someone, who taught someone else, who taught someone else—and eventually, that ripple reached us.

And now the question becomes: What will we do with that ripple?

We have an opportunity to continue spreading it.

We can spread the Gospel through prayer.

We can spread it by helping our friends and neighbors.

We can spread it by supporting our resource center and helping those who are in need.

We can spread it simply by being faithful, kind, patient, and by reflecting the goodness of Christ in the way we live our lives.

Sometimes we may think we need to do something big to make a difference. But a ripple starts small.

A conversation.
A prayer.
A helping hand.
A kind word.
An example of faith.

We may never know how far that ripple travels.

And just as the Gospel has reached us through generations of faithful people, we have a responsibility and a privilege to carry that ripple forward.

Our children are watching us. The children in our Bible school are learning from us. One day, they will carry these teachings into their own families, communities, and future generations.

We are the ripples today, and our children will carry those ripples tomorrow.

So let us not allow the Gospel to stop with us.

Let us pray.
Let us serve.
Let us help.
Let us encourage one another.
And most importantly, let us live in a way that reflects Jesus Christ.

Because the Gospel is not meant to remain in one place.

It is meant to spread.

And just like a ripple continues long after the stone has touched the water, the impact of our faith can continue long after we are gone.

May we be faithful ripples of the Gospel—carrying the good news of Jesus Christ from one person to another, and from one generation to the next.
