Spoiler Alert!

Most of us usually attribute Jesus and look for Him in the New Testament. However, we do see instances of Jesus throughout the Old Testament. God gave people a spoiler alert!

In the Old Teatament God gave Jews a messianic message. Messianic Prophecy may be defined to be all prophecy that refers, whether more or less distinctly, to the coming of Christ, to his work of salvation, or to the growth and con- summation of his kingdom.

Messianic messages can be found in the following:

Isaiah 7:14—Isaiah prophesies that a pure young woman will give birth to God’s son.

Matthew 1:18–23—Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled.

Isaiah 9:6—Isaiah prophesies that Jesus Christ will come as a baby; Jesus is described by several names.

Micah 5:2—Micah prophesies that Jesus will be born in Bethlehem.

Matthew 2:4–6—The scribes knew that Bethlehem was the prophesied birthplace of the Messiah.

1 Nephi 11:18–21—Nephi prophesies that the Son of God will be born to a virgin.

Luke 1:26–31—A virgin named Mary will be the mother of Jesus Christ.

Alma 7:9–10—Alma prophesies that Jesus will be born to Mary.

Luke 2:4–7—Jesus is born.

Helaman 14:1–6—Samuel the Lamanite prophesies of the signs at Jesus’ birth.

3 Nephi 1:4–21—On the night of Jesus’ birth, there was no darkness in America and a new star rose.

Matthew 2:2—A new star appeared in Israel.

FYI: Messianic Jews consider themselves Jewish Christians. Specifically they believe, as do all Christians, that Jesus is the son of God, as well as the Messiah, and that he died in atonement for the sins of mankind. There are approximately 175,000 to 250,000 messianic Jews in the U.S, and 350,000 worldwide. (1)

Llike wise, The Messianic Secret is a motif in the Gospel of Mark, in which Jesus is portrayed as commanding his followers to maintain silence about his Messianic mission.

Galatians 5:16–26 focuses on how God's Spirit gives those in Christ the power to serve others in love. We must allow the Holy Spirit to lead, however. When we don't, our selfishness will lead us into all kinds of sinful lifestyles. When we live by the Spirit, on the other hand, we gain more than just being able not to live in sin. What comes out of us are a collection of powerful, positive characteristics. (2)
